Clooney Calls for Justice Over Weinstein Scandal

Actor George Clooney says he is “furious” over the numerous sexual harassment and assault allegations leveled against disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein this month, telling NBC News in an interview Tuesday that media outlets that knew about Weinstein’s behavior and didn’t cover it should be held responsible for what happened.

Clooney, who got a big break in Hollywood in the Weinstein-produced 1996 film From Dusk Til Dawn, said that most of the rumors of Weinstein’s behavior he had heard had come from the producer himself.

“He would say, ‘I had an affair with this actress, or that actress.’ And I took all of that with a grain of salt. I thought he might have been chasing them,” Clooney said in a press appearance for his upcoming film Suburbicon Tuesday.

“Somebody knew,” Clooney added. “There were people that brought young actresses to his hotel room. Whoever had that story and didn’t write it should be held responsible. I want to know what kind of ad dollars were spent from The Weinstein Company and from Miramax, because we should have known this. This is violating women, this is assault. This is silencing women.”

When asked whether he was angry about the allegations against Weinstein, Clooney replied that he was “furious.”

“Yeah, he’s mean to work with, I knew that for a fact,” he went on. “But the idea that he’s committed these kind of atrocities. I want to know who knew.”

Since the decades of allegations against Weinstein were first reported by the New York Times this month, numerous celebrities have come forward to say that they knew about the movie mogul’s alleged behavior and remained quiet, for various reasons.

Director and frequent Weinstein collaborator Quentin Tarantino said this month that he had known “enough to do more” than he did throughout the years, including about an incident with his ex-girlfriend Mira Sorvino, while screenwriter Scott Rosenberg, who wrote the film Beautiful Girls for Miramax in the 1990s, wrote on social media this month that “everybody f*cking knew” about Weinstein’s behavior.

Clooney himself was the subject of accusations this month from an actress on his former television series ER, who accused the actor of helping to blacklist her from the business after she spoke up about alleged harassment she had endured on set. Clooney vehemently denied the allegation.

In a Monday interview, Matt Damon — who also spoke to NBC’s Today on Tuesday — said he knew about Weinstein’s alleged harassment of Gwyneth Paltrow, but had only heard about it second-hand, from friend and fellow actor Ben Affleck. Still, Damon maintained he did not know the extent of the producer’s alleged crimes.

“I’ve been reading these stories, because I’m racking my brain; ‘Did I see something? Could I have known something? Is there something I could have done?’” Damon said Tuesday.

In the NBC interview Tuesday, actress Julianne Moore said the focus of the Weinstein saga should be on what could be done now, and not what happened in the past.

“I hope that he’s prosecuted for some of these things,” Moore said. “I hope that some of the charges stand.”

Well, if Clooney is mad and says so, something must be done.

Clueless Clooney really thinks we’re all that stupid to believe his fake outrage? All who are in Hollywood know what goes on and they cook up any and all excuses to justify it. If Clooney was too naive to know in 1996, he sure as hell found out soon enough and was as quiet about it as those he now hypocritically blasts!

Amazing (not) all these Hollywood humans are closing the barn door after the horses have left. Yes, what a joke. And soon they’ll feign a gasp over Hillary and corrupt group.

After serving in the Far East as a “shave tail” and a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army as an artillery and intelligence officer during the mid-60s, when I returned to CONUS as Assistant Headquarters Commandant of approximately 800 troops at Ft. MacArthur, San Pedro, CA at the age of 24 occasionally I’d frequent PJ’s a happening, hip West LA bistro/hangout of the beautiful people of Hollywood during that sexually rampant/permissive era. On more than one occasion I memorably encountered and chatted at length with a particularly striking, lusciously lovely glamourpuss who was an aspiring actress. During the course of our conversation she let the cat out of the bag that she was being continually sexually harassed by the late Bill Dana [a very funny comedian, but not so venerable when it came to harassing aspiring actresses] who at the time was a very popular TV star who often played the role of Jose Jimenez. While I never witnessed his sexual harassment first-hand, one of her male colleagues who was also on the show was at PJ’s to corroborate her story to me.

Being the potential self-appointed knight in shining armor, I naturally offered to confront and thwart Bill Dana’s behavior face-to-face. But I was subsequently convinced by them that my actions in all probability would make matters worse. Bottom line: I’m not proud of myself for not “screwing my courage to the sticking point” and taking it upon myself to confront Bill Dana about his unseemly behavior!

Shortly thereafter after my two years of required active military service, I left LA to join what I erroneously thought would be a more staid existence at the headquarters in CT of a very prominent Fortune 30 firm. Ironically, many of the officers of the firm had mistresses clandestinely on the payroll. Seemingly, it was not only condoned, but it was actually encouraged to be “one of the boys!” Fortunately, despite the fact that I don’t ever profess to being a “goody two shoes” I had the presence of mind not “to dip proverbially my pen in the company inkwell. Why? One never knew when someone very junior such as myself was encroaching on an officer’s girlfriend.

Accordingly, Weinstein wasn’t the first nor will he in all probability be the last to engage in blatant sexual harassment. It was omnipresent in the movie, TV, advertising and especially the music industry. Conversely, I do believe that the recent revelations concerning President Trump, Harvey Weinstein, James Toback, and Bill O’Reilly, e.g., will eventually help to ameliorate/temper the tide of permissible sexual harassment within our society.

  • ReaperHD

Another Hollywood LYING POS, don’t watch any films he is associated with.

  • Anton

    “Somebody knew,” Clooney added.

Yeah, and Clooney had to know something too. With all the actresses coming out and reporting they told many, many co-workers, agents and numerous other people I just do not believe that not one of these women never mentioned it to Clooney at some time or another.

People in this business know what others are doing, with all the actors and actresses that have OD and died from drugs, they all know who the coke dealer to the stars is and yet he or she never gets turned in or arrested. Hollywood left wing radical liberals like Clooney know and are protecting these scum bags until they get busted then they act shocked.

  • Fred Friedman

Clooney is loony. He knew nothing about Weinstein. Right. As believable as a Negroes alibi when he’s caught with a gun in his hand. Hollywood is a sewer hole of lies, deception and moral incompetence.

  • AFGus

Clooney is a first class liberal liar to the inth degree! Does he really think that the general public is that stupid? Maybe liberals are, but there are a hell of a lot of non-liberals that know that Georgie Boy is full of CaCa! You’re not fooling anyone with your FAKE outrage Clooney. You were probably Weinstein’s Wing Man on much more than one occasion. Liars lie Clooney…..and you are one big fake POS!

  • Carolyn Brack-Jackson

Bunch of self-righteous hypocrites, one and all! Everyone knew and no-one did anything except collect the eggs laid by the golden goose!

Stick to acting like a decent human being. Who really gives two craps what you think. Like you are clueless as to what goes on in liberal wood.

Listen to these Left-Wing Liberals cry about a little sexual harassing JOB advancement. Funny, coming from a bunch of hypocritical morons supporting Planned Parenthood and the murder of 340,000 pre-born babies eery year. Of course, THAT don’t trouble them a bit.
Isn’t sucking someone’s “organ” just part of getting a job in Hollywood?

  • markypolo

Hey Clooney, You are a disgusting sack of fecal. Me and my family will NEVER watch another one of your movies. Ever.

  • Robert A Oziomek

Gee georgie though Weinstein was bragging. What a stupid excuse for not speaking up. Then he blames everyone else for not speaking up. Nice PR move.

    • EC

Yet, I’m sure that Cloony thinks that Trump’s bragging was an outrage, and he let everyone know. Can you say HYPOCRITE?…

  • Dean

It’s amazing to me that everyone in Hollywood Knew about this sex crazed women abusing maniac but somehow Clooney, Damon, and Afflack didn’t know anything. These Hollywood elites are scurrying like a bunch of rats off a sinking ship. The old Communist Hillary was taking all this guys money but somehow she didn’t know anything either.

  • EC

Seems to me that the best thing for Clooney, Damon, and the rest of these lying libs to do would be to STFU. The more they say, the deeper in s*|t they wade – and it’s already up to their necks. I guess actors just don’t know when to close their traps, unless of course it’s to protect their perverted friends. Then they’re all as quiet as a church mouse.

  • EC

I wonder how long it took for Clooney to get his “furious” look down. He must’ve spent hours in front of the mirror practicing. Unfortunately, he didn’t spend quite enough time…

  • rick meek

LMFAO — Hollywood and DC have ALWAYS been this way and have gotten even worse…..The elites have placed themselves above everyone else – exempted themselves – cover up their atrocities and buy off the moms and dads that sold their sons and daughters to this trash…..
Clooney will just end up running back to Italy and then who knows where else…..

  • Robert

I have waited with bated breath for Clooney’s words. Planet “Hollyweird” has always led the nation’s attack on bullshit.

  • john

Sure Clooney i believe every word you are saying. Lying sack of donkey dung.
