Sen. Cory Booker wants to crack down on gun owners to push his bid for the 2020 presidency.
The Democrat’s campaign is boasting the “most sweeping gun violence prevention plan ever put forth by a presidential candidate,” and has some 16 proposals in place.
One of them is to require all gun owners obtain federal firearms licenses in order to legally own a gun.
Comparing the requirement to a driver’s license Booker said, “a gun license demonstrates that a person is eligible and can meet certain safety and training standards necessary to own a gun.”
If Booker gains power he will force current and would-be firearm owners to request a license from the appropriate office. There it would await verification by the FBI. Current gun owners would be allotted a period of time to meet the new requirement.
“I am sick and tired of hearing thoughts and prayers for the communities that have been shattered by gun violence — it is time for bold action,” a statement from Booker claims.
“My plan to address gun violence is simple – we will make it harder for people who should not have a gun to get one,” he also said.
The Republican National Committee is less than happy with the declaration and made it known through spokesperson Mandi Merritt.
“Just when you think the 2020 field could not get anymore out there, Cory Booker comes in with a plan to use executive action filled with new restrictions and permits on law-abiding gun-owners. Votes across the country will see this as another big government grab on our constitutional rights,” Merritt shared.
