Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen M. Nielsen is sounding off on politicians who have allowed borders to remain open as illegal immigration hits a 12-year high.
The Department of Homeland Security has reported that a total of 76,103 apprehensions for the month of February, the highest it’s been since 2007.
“Our broken system endures, and the ongoing humanitarian and security crisis at our Southwest Border leaves many minors and families at extreme risk of being exploited by traffickers, human smugglers, gangs, and other nefarious actors seeking to profit at their expense. Activist courts, congressional inaction, and criminals intent on breaking our laws stand in the way of confronting illegal and uncontrolled migration threatening our safety and security,” Neilson stated.
Nielsen posed that law enforcement at the border was in dire need of support. Which Nielsen signaled should come from the construction of the border wall, stronger migration laws and an overall increase in border force resources.
“What was a crisis, is now a full-fledged emergency,” Nielsen said, “This cannot be a partisan issue.”
