President Donald Trump has announced that going forward he intends to meet and deliberate with the leaders of China and Russia to end his description of an arms race between the countries.
“I am certain that, at some time in the future, President Xi and I, together with President Putin of Russia, will start talking about a meaningful halt to what has become a major and uncontrollable Arms Race. The U.S. spent 716 Billion Dollars this year. Crazy!” Trump tweeted, upon his return from the G20 meeting in Argentina.
President Trump did not elaborate further.
Previously this year, the U.S. military elevated countering China and Russia as the top priority of it’s new defense strategy, withdrawing troops from less pressing posts to assist in the directive change.
Coincidentally, Washington has been very public while musing to end a historic nuclear arms pact that has been established with Russia since 1987.
