While many are lamenting what was had been widely labeled as an underwhelming Super Bowl, there was at least one very big detail to celebrate.
That moment was when Gladys Knight, a Grammy-winning singer, performed the national anthem. During the rendition something special happened that Americans have begun taking for granted, everyone was standing.
Even though it was a large and heavily publicized venue, none of the attendees felt it necessary to turn the game into an ongoing political statement by taking a knee during the anthem. It was entirely refreshing.
Really the only controversy came from trying to find a musical act that wasn’t busy catering to the unemployed Colin Kaepernick. Maroon 5, Travis Scoot and Big Boi would ultimately play the prestigious event. Otherwise there was no issue in just enjoying a game of American football.
