President Donald Trump has delivered some harsh criticisms for a group that many have considered to be one of his allies.
In an unexpected tweet the president called out the largely supportive network Fox News and in particular, chief White House correspondent John Roberts and journalist Gillian Turner.
The two appear to have raised the president’s ire due to reporting on the issue of border wall funding, although Trump failed to mention a specific incident.
“Never thought I’d say this but I think @johnrobertsFox and @GillianHTurner @FoxNews have even less understanding of the Wall negotiations than the folks at FAKE NEWS CNN & NBC! Look to final results! Don’t know how my poll numbers are so good, especially up 19% with Hispanics?” Trump tweeted.
The tweet was removed and reposted to show the correct tag for the account of Ms. Turner.
It’s possible this latest grievance was sparked by the government being reopened but only for a trial duration. Trump has made clear that he wants to reach an agreement for wall funding, and wants adequate coverage to help prove how necessary it is to build the wall.
